Hi ! You are still here. Glad to see you. After we discuss about the definition, social function, and generic structure of narrative, now you will learn about language features of narrative.

 

Ciri-ciri kebahasaan di dalam narrative text yang pelu kalian perhatikan yaitu:

1. Narrative text menggunakan tenses "past": simple past, past perfect, atau past perfect continous.
2. Keterangan waktu (Adverb of time): once upon a time, one day dan sebagainya.
3. Kata penghubung waktu(time conjuction): when, then, suddenly dan sebagainya.
4. Di dalam Fairy tale terdapat karakter khusus tidak seperti di cerita pada umumnya
5. Pada narrative text terdapat pula kata kerja yang menunjukkan action atau dinamakan Action verbs seperti killed, dug, walked dan sebagainya.
6. Pada Narrative text juga terdapat kalimat yang menggunakan kalimat langsung (Direct speech). It is to make the story lively. Kalimat langsung ini menggunakan present tense contoh Snow White said, "My name is Snow White".

 

 

Perhatikan kata kerja dari paragraf 1 dan 2 ada beberapa ciri-ciri kebahasaan yang digunakan yaitu simple past tense verbs dan adverbs of time. Perhatikanlah penjelasan berikut ini.

 

1. Notice the following verbs from paragraph 1 and 2
   Once upon a time, there lived a crane near a pond. As time passed, he grew older and weak, and was unable to arrange his food.
   Then, the crane thought of a plan to get access to food without having to hunt for it. He aimed to make the pond’s creature as his victims.
   Kata-kata yang digaris bawahi adalah kata kerja. Semuanya dalam bentuk lampau (past form):
   • lived
   • grew
   • was
   • thought
   • aimed

 

2. Study this part of the text and the bold words
   One day he sat on the bank of the pond with a sad face, and soon, the fishes, crabs and other creatures in the pond asked him what the matter was. Then, he explained that an astrologer had made a prediction that the pond would dry up soon, and that all the creatures of the pond would die. Hearing this, all the creatures of the pond got scared, and started talking among themselves. After that they asked the crane for a suggestion to this problem. Next, the crane explained how each one of the creatures could be saved by a simple action. He told all the pond creatures that he would carry one of them in his beak every day, and transport them to the other pond nearby, which had plenty of water. Hearing this, all the pond creatures agreed immediately in the desperate attempt to save their lives. Shortly, everyday, one fish or and other pond creatures started getting into the crane's beak as an attempt to save their lives, and the crane would take them to a deserted area and eat them.
